Art Academy is Excited to Announce a New Home

At Art Academy we are excited to announce our shiny, new home at the Education and Research Centre, Harold’s Cross. This is where we will host the Halloween / Midterm Art Camp 2019.

It’s a really nice building on the grounds of Our Lady’s Hospice. We’ll be in “classroom 3’ or as I prefer to call it Art Studio 3.
The entrance is across the road from the post office / St Clare’s School in Harold’s Cross. Enter through the main gates of Our Lady’s Hospice on the Harold’s Cross Road and proceed for 200 meters, the Research and Education Centre is on your right passed the carpark. Parking is free.

We are fully book this year but will announce a new schedule for 2020. www.artacademy.ie

Drawing tutorial: How to draw a cartoon lion.

Like to draw a lion? Check out: https://youtu.be/ok0BVIVY0VQ
If you would like to draw a lion, watch the video above and draw with me. It took me 3 minutes to draw the outline in marker.
TOP TIP: I like to draw the outline first in pencil. That way if I make a mistake, I can simply erase it. When I have all of the out lines drawn in pencil, then I take a black marker and go over these lines. Afterwards I take my time and enjoy colouring in my artwork. I hope you enjoy drawing this lion too. Which animal would you like to draw next?
Some of you know this from Art Academy’s Summer camp but for others: Did you know the famous french artist Rosa Bonheur learned the alphabet as a child by drawing an animal for each letter of the alphabet? One of her many favourite animals to draw and paint were lions. What is your favourite animal to draw?

How to Draw ABC Animals

Hi there,

How are you? I’ve been playing about with stop motion video editing and I’m excited to share something I’ve enjoyed making. If you’d like to watch a video tutorial on how to draw the cute Daisy below click here

Draw Your Own master Piece, The Grid Method

Many artists from Leonardo Da Vinci to Van Gogh have used the grid method to enlarge their drawings.

Try it yourself with Botticelli’s beautiful Venus below.

This was published in the recent Harold’s Cross Xpress. For those of your not in the area to receive the magazine, here is a copy of the drawing page for you to try.

Art Academy Summer Camp 2019

Art Academy are pleased to announce that we are now taking bookings for our Summer Art Academy Camps 2019 after the success at the Easter Camps. I’m so proud of the artists who attended and the standard of paintings they created. Exceeding my (admittedly high) expectations. Well done guys. 👩‍🎨👨‍🎨

We have 2 weeks of art to offer:

Week 1 for 6-9 year olds | 8th – 12th July | Monday to Friday | 10am – 2pm | Early drop off available if booked in advance

Week 2 for 9-14 year old s | 15th – 19th July | Monday to Friday | 10am – 2pm | Again early drop off available, if needed, if booked in advance

There are only 12 places available on each camp so I advise booking early.  To book your place post or email the booking form details along with a deposit of €50 per artist. You may pay your deposit with a cheque or postal order made payable to Sheila Flaherty or via Paypal using the email sheilaflaherty2002@yahoo.com. Balance due on the first day of camp.

Art Academy is located in Harold’s Cross Community Centre, located behind the building that was used for Kenilworth Motors.  Looking forward to art camp already. I’ve posted the Draw Your Own Masterpiece page (published in the recent Harold’s Xpress magazine) at the end of the post if you fancy challenging yourself to Botticelli’s Venus in the meantime.

Sheila.

Botticelli’s Birth of Venus Masterpieces by Week 1 Easter Camp Artists.

Congratulations to Ruth, Sarah, Oisín, Ava, Karl, Olaf, Seán, Lucy, Isobel, Aoileann, Nicola and Róise on completion of their Botticelli Birth of Venus masterpieces today at Art Academy art camp. They have done a wonderful job spending their Easter holidays creating beautiful art, learning new skills and making friends.

The original painting by Botticelli was created over 500 years ago and you can go to visit it in Florence Italy in the Uffizi Galleries. Take a look at their website here.

Some Renaissance art books for children we took at look at this week are: Botticelli by Mike Venezia and Rennaisance published by Usbourne

These can be borrowed from Rathmines Library

The art sticker book we used was bought from the shop at the gorgeous National Gallery of Ireland.

Art Academy wishes everyone a very happy Easter. Tomorrow is the final day of camp for the 6-9 yo artists and we are looking forward to art camp for the 9-14 yo next week.
