Thank you for join me for a virtual brunch-time sketching session from the National Gallery of Ireland. For those who fancy making the drawing in their own time I have posted it on YouTube video above.
Hi my wonderful artists, I hope you are safe and well. I am sad we can’t have an art camp in person. In lieu of our Art Academy I’ve put together this painting tutorial for you. As always, we will learn about a famous artist and then create our very own masterpiece inspired by their work. I hope you enjoy it.
Let me see your master copy Masterpiece paintings when they are complete. If you are new, you are also very welcome. Enjoy painting. If you are comfortable to show off your work ask a parent/guardian to post your painting to their social media, using the #icanpaintlikepicasso
I’ll post a selection up on www.artacademy.ie I am excited to see your work. Let me know in the comments/ get in touch if there is another painting you would like me to cover for you. For those artists aged 10-110 years old, hold tight, I am making a video for you too. Many art shops are closed right now but get in touch if you need help sourcing paints etc
For my Dublin, Ireland based artists K&M Evans will drop to your door. Also I’ve been advised that Terenure Office have canvases and painting supplies (Thank you Emer for the tip) and will deliver. Happy painting Sheila x
Well done on all your work today. I’ve filmed filling in the rest of the gridded drawing above as promised. You may use it as a reference when you are drawing the rest of your scaled up drawing on your canvas.
If you have any questions get in touch. See you next week for part 2: the underpainting. For this you will need: paint brushes, small for painting lines and bigger for filling in bigger areas, scissors, jar of water, your burnt umber acrylic paint, some kitchen paper, your completed design in the grid on the canvas and an artists palette (even a paper plate will work) Also cover the table and wear “art clothes”. If your art supplies are late being delivered let me know and I will see what I can do for you.
More good news on the art supplies front. Kennedy art shop has reached out to say they are taking online orders again. K&M Evans are trading online and Terenure Office have art materials for delivery. Amazon as always is handy. I’m keeping stocked and staying sane.

With the current demand and the very strict but necessary conditions for order fulfillment turn around is currently 3 – 5 working days. We may also have to close the checkout from time to time to allow staff to catch up. Please bear with us!
Please note also it is on line only – NO collections.
At all times our priority is the health and well being of our staff and customers and like everyone else we are in an evolving situation. We are monitoring the official advice of the HSE and Government and keeping the situation under daily review.
All orders are being Processed from home, only assembly and dispatch are happening from our premises.
Stay safe and well and let’s create!
We’d love to see all your wonderful creations and help share some beautiful things to distract from all the anxiousness currently out there. Share them with us on Instagram and Facebook @kennedyartshop and we’ll share them on our stories! #sharethejoy

_____________________________________________________________________ How to Draw ABC Animals is an initiative by artist and art teacher Sheila Flaherty in response to the school closures and COVID19 prevention social distancing. It aims to help parents have relaxing, enjoyable art activities for their mini Michelangelos to complete at home.
These art videos while initially requested by parents are being enjoyed by people of all ages. I realise so many of you are staying in to help curb the spread COVID19. Stay well and stay safe. Create don’t contaminate.
Sheila will post daily drawing videos. These videos are completely free of charge, free to use and share.
I have started a YouTube channel SheilaFlahertyArtist to share drawing tips and tricks. I’d love to know what you think? How can I improve and what kind of art videos would you like to see? Let me know in the comments under the video.
The 2 most asked questions I get about art are: 1. How long does it take to make a drawing? Different for every piece of art. In the one above about 50 minutes.
2. What art materials I use? I’ll share the art materials I used for the drawing in the video of the silver bow below- and I use these few art products quite alot. They are among my favourite art supplies.
These are the art materials I used in this drawing:
